Great Blue Heron

"Great Blue Heron" was photographed at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge in November 2016. I liked the pose this heron was giving me and the fact that it was in the top of a small shrub tree so that there was no background distractions.

The Great Blue Heron is a majestic sight, whether it is poised beside a pond or flying down along the coastline with it's slow wing beats. It often stands motionless as it scans for prey in the water or wades in with it's long legs. They can strike like lightning to grab thier prey and/or spear it with it's dagger like beak.

I have seen pictures of the Great Blue Heron eating everything from fish, including catfish, crabs, turtles, snakes, and even a duck. I have also watched one defend itself from a Bald Eagle that was trying to steal a fish that it had caught.

"Great Blue Heron" should make a great fine art photography wall art piece for your home, restaurant, or office, especially if blue would go well with your decor.
