"Tybee Island Fireworks" was photographed on New Years Night on January 1st 2017. It was a celebration of the New Year that evening. There was a party atmosphere all evening on Tybee Island around the pier with alot of song, dance, and drinking, until midnight when we had the final count down of 2016 and then about 20 minutes of these huge beautiful fireworks to ring in the New Year.
Fireworks celebrations in Coastal Georgia are as common as the rest of the United States. We have fireworks celebrations for both New Years and the 4th of July in many of the coastal communities e.g. Savannah, Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, and Tybee Island. The Savannah Riverfront Association has fireworks displays every first Friday of the month on Riverstreet except in January and July when they are doing New Years and Independence Day fireworks celebrations.
The history of fireworks in the USA goes back to the vision of John Adams even before the Declaration of Independence was signed. He wrote on July 3rd, 1776 that the occasion should be celebrated with “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” On July 4th, 1777 the first Independence Day celebration took place in Philadelphia with "a grand exhibition of fireworks (which began and concluded with thirteen rockets)".
This should make a good ocean wall art piece for your home, especially if you have ever experienced the fireworks at the Tybee Pier on Tybee Island, Georgia.
