"Super Cold Moon" was photographed in December 2017 at the Tybee Pier on Tybee Island, Georgia.
"Super Cold Moon" is sort of a play on words. The moon itself was not "Super Cold" or any colder than normal. It was a super moon, however, and the name for the full moon in December is the Cold Moon.
Being a super moon, it got as close as 222,144 miles, was 14% bigger than normal, and 30% brighter.
The name "Cold Moon" comes from December being the beginning of Winter (December 21st) and is when the cold usually sets in. In much of the USA, especially the eastern parts of the USA, January and February tend to have colder temperatures than December. Other names for the December full moon are the "Moon before Yule", "Oak Moon", and the Celtic name was the "Wolf Moon".
"Super Cold Moon' was photographed on a feel good sort of night. It was not too cold, mild temperatures in fact, calm winds, and the weather was mostly clear despite having 100% cloud cover earlier that day. As you can tell, people also came out to view the moon from the pier.
I think "Super Cold Moon" will make a great fine art beach art piece for anyone who loves full moons, Tybee Pier, Tybee Island, or Coastal Georgia!
