"Keenly Aware" was photographed in May of 2018.
"Keenly Aware" is an alligator at Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge. There are many alligators there. They live in the lakes and ponds on the refuge and feed off of the fish, turtles, and birds that also live in or around lakes and ponds. They actually have a rare symbiotic relationship with the birds (e.g. the herons, egrets, and wood storks) that nest in the trees in the ponds. The birds depend on the alligators to protect their nests from other predators like raccoons, possums, and snakes that would eat their eggs or chicks.
"Keenly Aware" has placed in the top 21 running of the "Nature in Black and White" contest sponsored by the Georgia Nature Photographers Association. It will be displayed at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in December 2018 and January 2019.
I think "Keenly Aware" would make a great fine are wall art piece for anyone who likes Coastal Georgia wildlife, alligators, or just likes the fierce competitive survivalist spirit that this animal represents.
