"Flying Cloud at Night" was photographed in Thunderbolt, Georgia during a full moon in June of 2014. The Flying Cloud is a shrimp boat that used to dock here in Thunderbolt. I enjoyed taking picture of her at sunrise also. At one time the city of Thunderbolt, Georgia was a shrimping community and River Drive, which is the road that runs along the Wilmington River, was always lined with 15-20 shrimp boats. Now, only a few shrimp boats remain docked on River Drive at this one dock.
The "Flying Cloud" is a wood hull shrimp boat, built in 1969. It is 69.3 feet long, has a depth of 7.2 feet, and breadth of 22.2 feet. It weighs 60 tons, but can carry another 24 tons on board. The river here is called the Wilmington River and the lighted area on the horizon in the background is Wilmington Island.
"Flying Cloud at Night" will make an awesome fine art wall art piece, especially for those who are fond of boats, especially shrimp boats. Shrimp boats and shrimping are part of our historic culture along the coast in Georgia. Sadly, the industry has come under much duress due to imported shrimp and high fuel prices along with high maintenance prices.
