"Driftwood Beach at Night" was photographed in March 2018 on Jekyll Island, Georgia.
I was able to capture this awesome seen about 4:30am in the morning during a very clear cool night. A cold front had come through which dropped the temperatures down for two or three nights, but it also pushed all the clouds out making the skies very clear.
Driftwood Beach is on the north end of Jekyll Island, Georgia. It is know for it's picturesque driftwood along this beach which has come from beach erosion pushing into the forest area. The beach has been dramatically changed by powerful hurricanes (Matthew in 2016 and Irma in 2017). Some driftwood was swept out to sea while other driftwood trees were pushed into the forest tree line. In one area a huge swath of beach sand was pushed further inland and huge amounts of salt water drenched the forest with ocean storm surge during hurricane Irma.
However, change is always occurring in nature and change is to be expected. These driftwood trees, although beautiful and picturesque, are part of an ever changing ecology and won't last forever. All we can do is enjoy them while they last and appreciate them and their beauty while they are here.
