"Super Wolf Blood Moon" was photographed on the night of January 20th, 2019 and the early morning of January 21st, 2019.
Depicted here all of the stages of the total lunar eclipse. Following the spiral from left to right, you have the full moon, then the preumbra which is a very light shadow on the moon as the earth is starting to move in front of the sun. The third moon shows the start of the umbra which is the earth's main shadow and the start of the eclipse. The sixth moon shows the reddish "blood" color of the almost total eclipse. The red color is from the earth's atmosphere which scatters blue light. Red light is able to travel through our atmosphere easier. The eight moon is the total eclipse. The ninth moon is near total and starting to come out of the eclipse. I chose this moon to use as the larger moon also. It just looked better to me. The 10th thru the 12th show the umbra as the eclipse was ending. The 13th and 14th moons shows the preumbra still covering the entire moon and are a little darker than the original full moon.
