"Sea Oats, Sand, and Stars" was photographed on Tybee Island, Georgia in October of 2018.
I have a lot of people ask me "Can you really see this at night on Tybee Island". The answer is yes, you really can see this on Tybee Island and many of the other Coastal Georgia barrier islands. Albeit, you have to know when and where to look. You can only see the Milky Way at certain times during the month and year. You also need to allow a few minutes for your eyes to get adjusted to the dark. I do a long twenty second exposure to bring the stars out and capture the foreground in very dark conditions, however, you can definitely see this.
"Sea Oats, Sand, and Stars" reminds me of the bible passage in Genesis 22:17 when the Lord told Abraham, "I will surely bless you and make your descendants and numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore". Most people remember the "sand on the seashore" part of this verse and forget the "stars in the sky". It's what we can relate to I guess and many people in today's times don't ever see this many stars. Maybe there are as many stars out there as there is sand on the seashore. Anyway, that's a lot of descendants.
I think "Sea Oats, Sand, and Stars" will make a great fine art or beach art piece for anyone who likes Coastal Georgia art or night photography.
