"Reaching for the Stars" was photographed on...
"Reaching for the Stars" was photographed on Ossabaw Island in May of 2022.
Ossabaw Island's south beach area is full of natural driftwood. Some of these driftwood pieces are huge deadwood trees. This very tall piece of driftwood looked like it was 'Reaching for the Stars' at night.
A driftwood boneyard is created when the ocean erodes the beach into the forest and kills off some trees with salt water. It's a natural process on the barrier islands. Usually on the barrier islands one section may be eroding, but other sections may actually be gaining sand and growing the island. There is evidence of sand dunes closer to the center of the island where the island gained land and the forest expanded as well.
