"Love's Seafood Sunset' was photographed in June 2017 during a Georgia Nature Photographer's Association (GNPA) meetup.
Over the summer months, our GNPA Coastal Division holds what we call "Eat and Shoot" meetups, where we will meet at a restaurant either before or after a nature photography shootout.
On this occasion, we decided to meet at Love's Seafood off of Hwy 17 near the Kings Ferry boat ramp on the Ogeechee River. The seafood there is excellent with a cozy atmosphere on the inside. Outdoor/patio seats are also available.
So, after eating, we decided we where going to photograph the sunset. We had a group of nine photographers that was shooting the sunset. It was a pretty cloudy day, so the sunset was "fair" or "ok". There was nothing impressive about the sunset before it actually set other than the colors were changing slightly every few minutes.
Out of the nine photographers that started shooting the sunset, most left shortly after or just as the sun was hitting the horizon. The last three of us had our camera bags packed and were getting ready to leave also. As we were saying goodbye, we looked back and the sky had blown up with color. All I could say was "We've got to go for it!" It was way more impressive just after sunset than it was before. We had just enough time to get setup again and take one or two photographs before the color retired for the evening.
And, I'm glad I stayed just a few minutes longer to capture this awesome beautiful "fire in the sky" scene that unfolded. I think it will make a great fine art wall art piece for anyone who likes colorful, beautiful, and impressive sunsets.
